Articles and Bylaws

The Constitution may be composed of:
  1. Articles: The articles of a Constitution are those separately marked sections or clauses, which specify the purpose or other terms and conditions of the Association. The articles are the rules and regulations by which the Association will work.
  2. Bylaws: The purpose of the bylaws is to help define the rules and regulations. As such, they are subsidiary to the articles of the Constitution and must be drafted in a manner, which, in the opinion of the organization, seems best suited to meet its requirements.

The Specimen Constitution, which follows, is intended only as a guide. In drafting or reviewing its Constitution, a National Organization should bear in mind its own particular needs and circumstances.

Anybody involved in drafting or reviewing a Constitution by using this document should also bear in mind that this Specimen Constitution, which includes some guidelines and comments, reflects the official basic standards of Junior Chamber International. As a result, changes or additions should not be in conflict with the principles therein.

Note: The comments made in the sample Constitution (in italics) are not part of the Constitution and should not be included in your Constitution as such.
