Focus on Training Institute: Learning Institute Finland

Learning Institute Finland coordinates and develops training activities in JCI Finland. A National Project Leader, who is appointed annually, with his/her 10 Regional Training Coordinators, ensures local, regional and nationwide availability of training and trainers. Learning Institute Finland was founded in 1996 and has been very active since, providing learning opportunities to all 88 local organizations and 2,500 members. Finland is also known for its highly skilled international trainers, and JCI Finland members account for 4.5% of all International Training Fellows (ITFs).

JCI Finland and Learning Institute Finland organize several national trainings every year on orientation in leadership, strategic planning, personal development and chapter management.

Train is an 8-hour pre-Prime course designed for Finns. Basic presentation and training theory and skills are introduced and practiced. Future Chapter is a weekend-long course on strategic planning to which local organizations send their potential future presidents and board members. When a future local organization is organized in the spring, the Pres-Lio course offers concrete advice in late fall for the next year’s president and officers.

The Learning Institute coordinates and encourages participation in the JCI Flagship programs, as well as in the Nordic and European Academies. JCI Finland organizes a JCI Flagship program almost every year and sends large and qualified delegations to the Nordic and European academies.

This year’s National Project Leader for the Learning Institute, Maarit Ketola, highlights very active speaking competitions. “Finland has built up a very strong speaking tradition in JCI,” she states. “We are holding local, regional, and national competitions. Our latest interest is debating, which is becoming increasingly popular.” She adds that the World Trade Game and Personal Skill Map training have become nationally accepted.
