Training Institute (TI) in Focus: TI Flanders

By Saskia Mussels, TIF Director, JCI Vlaanderen

The Training Institute in Flanders (TIF) has two TIF directors to coordinate the activities of 33 trainers (10 CLT, 3 IG, 4 ITF) and district coordinators, who mostly organize the training sessions and help local coordinators.

We are particularly proud of the support we offer to our local trainers. We strongly believe in stimulating our 50 trainers to grow continuously. And we have put in place several programs to reach that objective. One is our newsletter, which is now running its fourth year. In this digital newsletter, the last (and much read) item is 'tips for trainers,' where we provide food for thought, give ideas on accelerated learning techniques, handling spicy audiences and so on.

The second very important thing we do is organize five train-the-trainers sessions each year. Four of these are evening sessions, both intended as networking events and as short trainings. Recent subjects were “Flipchart magic”, “Impro-techniques for energizing groups” and “How to create a customized training.” At the end of every year we organize a trainers’ weekend, where we invite an external trainer to work with us for an evening and a day on one specific item of training.

Two years ago, we invited Ruth Webber from Scotland, one of the designers of the original Prime, a brilliant, fascinating lady. Last year, we invited Paul Jackson, author of “The solution focus - the simple way to positive change” and great at using “impro-skills” to enhance training. And this year we are happy to invite Kimberly Hare from Kaizen Training Limited, who will introduce our trainers in “Cynical to excited: State transitions.”
